RESEARCH

His scientific interests pertain to water resources and systems, flood risk management, sustainable and smart urban planning. His research outcomes, featured in major international journals, investigate on hydrologic-hydraulic modelling, geospatial information systems and algorithms, Open/Big Data and Citizen Science with specific focus on the development and application of experimental geomorphic and hydraulic algorithms for monitoring, forecasting and mapping flood risk in complex and ungauged urban, rural and coastal ecosystems.

Prof. Nardi in recent years, while pursuing WARREDOC scientific coordination and leadership, have further extended his research topic and interests by means of trans-disciplinary collaborations linking water and environmental engineering with social sciences and humanities. In particular, Dr. Nardi coordinates and implements research projects integrating quantitative engineering hydrological studies with socio-cultural investigations for citizens’ and stakeholder’s engagement, monitoring and behavioral analytics. Specific focus of recent works relates to trans-disciplinary studies on water, food and energy security that are supported by both technological physically-based numerical modelling component as well as cultural and behavioural aspects. Major ongoing efforts aim to investigate nature-human interfaces and dynamics for urban, water and environmental safety and sustainability.
